Naomi’s Week of Work Experience

Work experience week at Gravity Digital

I’ve spent this past week at Gravity Digital doing work experience and it’s been incredible- from meeting the team, learning about different marketing strategies and trying to do some marketing myself. Throughout this week, I’ve learnt so much and had lots of fun and have also gained a deeper understanding of marketing practices. I’m extremely grateful to have been part of this small, lovely team of talented people. It’s been eye opening, and I now have a deeper understanding of practices and skills which will definitely stick with me.

On Monday I arrived to meet only two members of the small, close knit marketing team. Sharon and Sarah welcomed me in and made me feel comfortable and at ease. My week was well organised with a list set up for me with tasks to complete through my week. Sharon took me on a tour of their little, quirky office and showed me what the business got involved in, from social media marketing, to web design, email marketing, and logo and graphic design. I also learnt about search engine optimisation, a term I hadn’t heard of before, and learnt about its importance to marketing and websites to increase web traffic.

Thank you Gravity Digital

I set out to complete the tasks I was given and began with social media posts and a blog. Sarah, the content creator, took me through different software they use for content creation. She then briefed me on a client, and I got to work and created a few posts for a swimming pool client of theirs and created a blog explaining the importance of learning to swim. Sarah was extremely helpful and kind helping me through every step and making sure I was okay. I really enjoyed making social media posts and learning more about creating content for businesses. I spent more time in the week creating more posts focusing on mental health week in May and made posts for a high-end outdoor furniture company. I learnt how to nuance my tone of voice to target a different demographic and created different posts for Facebook and Instagram promoting products as warmer weather heads closer.  On the whole, I really enjoyed learning about social media marketing and leaning to use different tools.

As the week went on, I met more of the team, Joe, Alex, Adrien and Andy, who were all wonderful and taught me so much about their work as a marketing firm. One of the most memorable parts of my week was seeing how the team collaborates. It was really interesting to observe brainstorming sessions and the way the team would come together to improve their clients’ marketing strategies. The collective expertise and enthusiasm of the team members were evident, and I loved how they all played off each other’s ideas. It reinforced the idea that successful marketing isn’t just about individual skills but about working in a team.

Overall, the best part of my week was not just gaining an array of marketing skills but also having the chance to be a part of such a wonderful team. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to such a supportive environment and I’m excited to take what I’ve learnt and apply in future opportunities.
